“If you build it, they will come” says Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams. Well.. he’s misquoted there but whatever…
“If you build it, add sushi restaurants, train stations, amusement parks, and other neat stuff – you’ll win” says me… the Mayor of Machi Koro, a city begging for primetime development and the focus of Machi Koro: Bright Lights, Big City.
Machi Koro is a city building and dice rolling game where players develop establishments to help their city earn money for further development. The first to build all of the major hallmarks of a big city win the game! After sitting through countless hours of city planning meetings and reading zoning laws, players will experience the following:
- A hatred of local pizza joints or family restaurants
- The desire to own and run your own tuna boat
- A complete misunderstanding of local infrastructure and real estate
- A belief you’re talented enough at dice rolling to affect the results
Food
- Sushi

- Cold, saran-wrapped sandwiches from your local mom-n-pop shop
- The finest Japanese cheese
- Bread
Specialty Cocktail: Tangerine Ginger Sake Sangria
You’ll need:
1 bottle Nigori Sake
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
½ cup fresh ginger, chopped
4 tangerines
¼ cup fresh mint
Bring the sugar and water to boil in a medium saucepan. When the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and add the chopped ginger. Let steep for 30 minutes. Pour syrup into a pitcher through a fine sieve and discard the ginger. Chill in the refrigerator. Once chilled, thinly slice three of the tangerines and add them to your pitcher. In a glass, add most of the mint and enough sake to cover. Mull the mint and add it to the pitcher, along with the rest of the sake. Add a whole lot of ice and while that gets the sangria nice and cold, wipe the rim of your glasses with a tangerine slice and twist the rims in sugar. Pour sangria into glasses and add a tangerine slice. Garnish with the remaining mint.
