ThemeAddict: Azul

Sure, sure. Portugese exploration reached all-time highs under Manuel I reign in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. But clearly Manny knew that those would make the driest of board game themes once the 21st century rolled around. Refusing to see his legacy die with the rise of the hobby game industry 500 years later, Manny took the trip to Southern Spain, fell in love with azulejos and the germination of Azul began.

Designed by Michael Kiesling and published by Plan B Games (at least here in North America which I am not told was not discovered by the Portugese), 2-4 players will draft tiles to place on the Royal Palace’s walls for 30-45 minutes.

After the palace improvement project, players may experience the following:

  • A new favorite color
  • An influx of ceramics around the household
  • Desire to make every wall and accent wall
  • Aggressive shopping habits at Home Depot
  • Revenge interior designing

Food

  • Blueberry Pop-tarts
  • Blueberry Nutri-grain bars
  • Blueberry Toaster Strudels
  • Blueberry Newtons
